The modern world is designed to be frictionless. Everything is a click away and every problem has a convenient solution. This sounds like progress, but it leaves people unprepared for actual difficulty. When nothing is expected of you, you eventually lose the ability to perform.
This is why we seek out the grind. A training session is one of the few places left where you are forced to deal with physical resistance. You have to find a way to move when someone is trying to hold you down. You have to find your breath when you feel like you have nothing left. These aren't just drills. They are experiments in how you handle pressure.
The person you become on the mats is the person you take with you everywhere else. You learn that discomfort isn't a reason to quit. You learn that your limits are usually much further out than you thought. While everyone else is looking for an easy way out, you are getting comfortable in the middle of the struggle. That is the only real way to build a life worth living.
